“dishonourable” (πάθη ἀτιμίας). It is such misdirected and excess passion to which he will have been referring when he mentions “desires” (ταῖς ἐπιθυμίαις) and “passions of dishonour” (εἰς πάθη ἀτιμίας).53 A number of conclusions flow from these observations. Paul is not saying God gave some people sexual passion, let alone a homosexual orientation. Nor is he condemning passion or sexual desire, itself, as dishonourable, but only when it is wrongly directed into same-sex engagement. He
